Mickey’s Café – A Hometown Favorite
The residents of Kernersville, NC understand the advantages of living in a small town. There are many interesting attractions in Kernersville, but a particular family-owned and operated restaurant is a long-time favorite.
Mickey’s Café was opened in 2011, when Wendy Smith and her family purchased the business formerly known as “Bill & Leah’s Ice Cream and Café.” Wendy comes from a long line of restaurateurs, who have been in the business since the 1970s. After achieving fame in the area for their tenderloin biscuits at their former restaurant in Walkertown, Wendy decided to make the move to Kernersville and to name the restaurant after her father.
It has been a hit with the local folks since it opened. Wendy has purposely kept the retro feeling in the décor and in the food. The menu is full of comfort food, Southern favorites and the ever-popular foot-long hot dog, burgers and crinkle-cut fries. Breakfast is a treat here, the platters offered with just about any combination of breakfast specialties that you prefer. Families feel comfortable bringing the kids out to this local spot, since they can have a fresh, nutritious meal at a price that is almost as retro as the tenderloin biscuit!
Saving the desserts for last…the hand-scooped ice cream choices are the best way to end a satisfying meal! Of course, there are other choices, but the ice cream bar is hard to resist!
Since they are open seven days a week, feel free to drop in any time for a snack, a meal or an ice cream treat! Everything is served up with Southern hospitality.
